personal photo - Us at Kings Dominion (2005)
B and I are both from Virginia. We lived 45 minutes from each other and the only sport our high school played each other was soccer. Neither of us played soccer. So B and I didn't know of each others existence.
All throughout high school I never had a boyfriend and I never dated. I had plenty of crushes, but they weren't interested. When your high school is as small as mine was, the selection pool is pretty limited. Maybe they didn't think I was cute, they didn't like my personality, or I outright intimidated the heck out of them but there wasn't even a bite. Looking back on it, I am thankful!
After high school I attended the local community college along with a few people from high school. One of my friends started seeing a guy, lets call him C, and we would sit in the student lounge talking between classes. C and I were talking one day about how all of my friends were going to be married and have children before I found someone. I know it sounds ridiculous but at 17 I had accepted the fact that I was going to be an old maid taking care of her older brother.
I told C that I didn't meet guys well. I didn't know how to approach them and act around them. He said he'd hook me up with someone. Laughing to myself on the inside, I told him that would be great. Friends had told me they'd fix me up in the past but nothing had ever come to fruition. The next day he told me he had the perfect guy in mind so I asked him to tell me about him. He said he was really smart (I love smart), wore glasses (I think glasses are sexy), had lots of muscles since he is a body builder (I love muscles). So naturally I was smitten already but I didn't get my hopes up. Wednesday C said B wanted my AIM address so I gave it to him and when I got home I made sure it was working and waited. Nothing.

Thursday evening my friend called (C's girlfriend) and asked if Friday evening I could go on a blind double date with her and C. I was sooo surprised that this guy had actually come through. She told me what to wear and I was so excited. I told my dad about the date and he warned me that not all guys are "good" guys. I just laughed.
So after work I met my friend and we drove to Chili's in the next city over and waited for them to show up. C and B came in and B was wearing a sweatshirt (it was Feb.). The jacket choice was not impressive but he was still cute. Then we went to sit down and the sweatshirt came off to reveal huge pecks and arms. OMG! I was in heaven. After dinner we played pool and sat and talked for a few hours, just the two of us.
Now let me tell you, I am a talker! B didn't say much but he made fun of the awkward silences which put me at ease. He told me to tell him about myself and so I spilled my whole life story. And I mean ALL of it. It was pretty embarrassing but he must have been fine with it. During my vomit of the mouth we found out he and my grandma share their birth date and he and I have the same middle name. Which I took as fate! Ha!
From then on B and I chatted every night on AIM, saw each other every weekend, and talked a few times a week on the phone.
How did you and your fiance meet? Were you set up or did either of you make the first move?
